As your child grows up, they should be encouraged to share their views and form their own opinions. It is a good idea for them to  consider that they might like to achieve and what their goals are for the future.

Preparing for Adulthood can start at any age, however,  the SEND Code of Practice states that conversations and discussion around future long term goals should start early, well before Year 9, this is referred to as ‘Preparing for Adulthood’.

From Year 9, planning should start to focus on what young people want to achieve when they leave school.   Planning should consider Education and Employment, Health, Community Inclusion and Independent Living.
